Pros and Cons of Living in San Bruno

by Wilson Leung

If you’re considering a move to San Bruno, there are many things to consider before making the decision. Whether you’re looking to be near Skyline Drive and Skyline Community College in Portola Highlands, Rollingwood, Pacifica Heights, Monte Verde, or Crestmoor park, or on the east side around El Camino in Lomita Park, Capuchino Village, Huntington Park, Mills Park, and San Bruno Park, this city has much to offer.

As a resident of San Bruno, I am here to provide you with some pros and cons of living here in this beautiful city. Keep in mind, this information is specific to 2022 as the city is going through many changes at the moment.

PRO #1: The weather in San Bruno is mostly sunny and moderately windy. This city is known for its sunshine throughout the year, with occasional clouds and fog. On some days, you can even catch a glimpse of Karl the fog rolling in from the Crystal Springs Reservoir, which is a beautiful sight to see.

CON #1: On the downside, when it does get windy in San Bruno, it can be quite gusty. Make sure to have a warm jacket or windbreaker on hand to stay comfortable. The good news is that the weather is never too hot or cold here, so you won’t have to deal with extreme temperatures.

PRO #2: San Bruno is known for its numerous residential neighborhoods, which is why many people choose to live here. The city is also well-connected to transportation, with easy access to freeways and the current second-to-last BART station on the peninsula.

CON #2: However, being located near the airport can be a drawback for some. You may hear international flights taking off and landing on a regular basis. Additionally, the city is set to lose its own shopping center, Tanforan, which will be replaced with a magacampus workspace. This means that residents will have to travel to Daly City, San Francisco, or San Mateo for their major shopping needs.

PRO #3: San Bruno is one of the more affordable cities to live in on the peninsula, with many affordable housing options available. The city is known to be in the top 5 most affordable cities in San Mateo County, making it a great option for those looking to stay on the peninsula without breaking the bank.

CON #3: However, it’s important to note that affordability is relative. San Bruno is still one of the more expensive cities to live in, with a median home price of $1.3 million as of mid-2022.

Overall, living in San Bruno has its pros and cons, just like any other city. If you’re considering a move here, make sure to weigh the pros and cons and do your research before making a decision.
